SuperBikes at Brands Hatch

Hitting the half way point of the season the British Superbikes (BSB) championship is really heating up following tussles between the PBM Ducati teammates in Snetterton. It continued here as Tommy Bridewell and Glenn Irwin fought it out for the win in a dramatic race 3. Bridewell is in a grove at the moment and won race 3 adding to his Race 2 win earlier in the day. Irwin is having to ride the wheels off his Ducati to keep in touch and I’m sure we’ll see more fight from Glenn for the title this year.

We caught up with another rider who’s finding form in the top class this year. Former Moto 3 World Champion Danny Kent has been in the Superbike class for a number of years now and he’s beginning to show the talents we knew were there. Having caught up with him on Friday for a chat with James Whitham he followed up the promise with strong pace over the weekend in both wet and dry conditions and podiumed in Race 1.

Set amongst the trees Brands is always a great place for interview locations. The track undulates and twists through the bends made famous through decades of racing. None more so than Paddock Hill bend where we’ve set up for Dany Kent. Unfortunately I’ve my own history here from spinning out of the Formula Ford Festival in 2004. Though I did set fastest lap on my way to the gravel trap.

We also caught up with Evan Belford who is dominating the British Talent Cup the season. His interview setup in the club paddock shows the more grass roots of the sport where all the teams and solo efforts are crammed in. But don’t be mistaken by the less glossy surroundings. These paddocks are full of excellent mechanics and teams who help nurture and guide these stars of the future. The sense of family here is strong and you can be sure to find one team helping another when stuck.

The Eurosport BSB team is one of my longest working relationships at it’s always great to join them for shoots. A very enjoyable weekend was had and there’s more to come this year so I’ll look forward to those.
